ROSIE

The photographs in this series document the daily life of my neighbor, Rosie.  A strong, vital woman, on the cusp of turning 90, the images are a visual narrative of how she spends her days in and around the home she has lived in independently since the early passing of her husband.  I first became interested in documenting Rosie’s daily routine after making a short film that focused largely on her dedication to letter writing.  Wanting to capture her in a fuller, deeper way, the images in the series are a testament to the activities that sustain her, in the surroundings she continues to thrive in, much like the “gentle giants” in her yard. Rosie also pays homage to the significance of neighbors and asks the viewer to consider their own relationships with those they live alongside.
