OUT OF THE PANDEMIC VIDEO INSTALLATION

In September 2020, Gallery North partnered with the Latino Arts Council of Long Island to present Out of the Pandemic, an outdoor, video installation by artist Carlos Morales. For the installation, Morales projected a series of images onto the various buildings of Gallery North’s campus, forming a pop-up exhibition for outdoor viewing. Out of the Pandemic was Morales’ response, as a documentary photographer, to the limitations encountered by essential workers within Latinx communities across Long Island.

The installation was presented as a series of safe, socially-distanced events that were free and open to the public. It was intended to include images by other Latinx artists and grow over time. The Latino Arts Council also hoped it would in time be featured at other venues within Long Island Latinx communities. Through Out of the Pandemic, Morales sought to fulfill the mission of the Latino Arts Council to bridge the gap between the diverse communities that make up Long Island through the universal language of the arts. The Council’s goal is to create opportunities to showcase the artistic production of talented individuals from underrepresented backgrounds.
